Sand Cleaning

TORE®SCRUB SAND CLEANING

TORE®SCRUB cleans oil from produced sand and solids, enabling overboard discharge within strict environmental limits or solids re-injection.

Construction

TORE®SCRUB sand  cleaning equipment consists of a solitary pressure vessel with solid/liquid cleaning cyclones mounted in the top section with a TORE® in the base section of the vessel and an external jet pump to boost slurry pressure.

Solid/Liquid Cleaning Cyclones

The solid/liquid cleaning cyclones are selected to suit the particle sizes of the solids being treated.

Benefits

  • Treats problem at location – no skip and ship and/or storage
  • TORE®SCRUB sand cleaning equipment utilises reliable, proven technology
  • The TORE® enables slurry to be discharged from the vessel at a controlled flow rate, pressure and concentration
  • Little maintenance – no moving parts
  • Cleans to the strictest of environmental standards
  • TORE®SCRUB is a single vessel
  • The TORE®SCRUB sand cleaning equipment is insensitive to motion
  • No operator intervention required since the TORE® moves the solids
  • Simple retort test checks sand cleanliness

How TORE®SCRUB works

TORE®SCRUB utilises a combination of TORE®, jet pump and solid/liquid cyclone to clean oil from sand. Solids are fed to the TORE®SCRUB either at high concentration into the vessel itself or at a lower concentration directly into the solid/liquid cyclone at the top of the unit. Solids drop to the base of the vessel where they accumulate.

Once charged with solids the sand cleaning vessel is depressurised and the cleaning mode started. A recycle line is used to re-circulate a slurry generated by a TORE® through the cyclone at the inlet to the TORE®SCRUB sand cleaning vessel. A jet pump is used to boost the pressure in the recycle line. The high gravitational forces and attrition set up in the jet pump and cyclone act as scrubbing devices on the sand particles, cleaning oil from their surfaces. TORE®SCRUB sand cleaning equipment treats the solids offline in a batch process.

Prior to discharge, the sand is tested to ensure compliance with environmental standards. If the samples does not meet the required standard, it is simply recycled through the TORE®SCRUB sand cleaning equipment as necessary until standards are met.

Cleaned sand is then discharged from the TORE®SCRUB sand cleaning vessel by activating the TORE® in the base of the vessel.

Once emptied the vessel is ready to receive the next batch of solids for cleaning. These can be supplied direct from, for example, a TORE®TRAP desander, from Merpro’s unique TORE®OVD system for removing produced sand from production separators, or from TORE®HYDROHOIST.
