FIL-TORE®

FIL-TORE® is a compact radial media filter which cleans and recycles media on-line, eliminating the need for backwashing and the need for standby units for use during the wash cycle. It operates as both a downflow and radial media filter, with top and side inlets. This gives it substantially more surface area than conventional down flow and up flow filters, making the unit smaller and lighter, or providing higher throughput for a given footprint.

Filtration of contaminants proceeds as per a conventional media filter, with the contaminants being trapped by the media and gradually filling voids in the media bed, until a high pressure drop is recorded across the bed. At a high differential pressure, or on a set timed basis, a media wash cycle is initiated. Dirty media is removed by the TORE® at the foot of the FIL-TORE® vessel, and hydro-transported to the small wash vessel. This is undertaken on a batch basis with a set volume of media, typically 10%, removed for cleaning. This constitutes a small portion of the total bed volume, with additional media provided in the design to ensure sufficient quantities remain for filtration purposes. As media is removed for cleaning, the remaining media in the vessel travels downwards, ensuring recycling of the complete media bed after a number of wash cycles.

A cyclone in the top of the wash vessel uses centrifugal forces to enhance separation of contaminants from the media, increasing the media washing efficiency while minimising wash water requirements. Cleaned media drops to the foot of the wash vessel while waste effluent exits from the top of the vessel for subsequent clean up and/or disposal. A TORE® in the foot of the wash vessel returns cleaned media to the filtration vessel. This ensures the media bed is constantly turned over, removing dirty media from the foot of the bed and returning cleaned media to the top. This occurs while the vessel remains on-line.

Capability

The FIL-TORE® is capable of removing both solid contaminants and residule oil in the produced water.   FIL-TORE® can be designed to remove solids down to 99% of all particles ≤1μm and 90% of particles ≤0.5μm and oil droplets that are not emulsified.  FIL-TORE® is designed and built to suit flow and influent requirements.
